Title: Luminous perceptions
Creator: Horton, David
Date: 1988
Publisher: New Milford, New York: Flying Pyramid Press
Description:
PROSPECTUS/DISPLAY DIRECTIONS: "The Flying Pyramid Press is
pleased to present the 1988 publication of LUMINOUS PERCEPTIONS by
David Horton. LUMINOUS PERCEPTIONS is a 16 page accordion fold
visual book. From its 7" x 7" x 2" slipcase, this book magically unfolds into a
6' 4" long sequence of photographs and three-dimensional panoramas.
Each of the pages was printed by the artist on photographic paper, mounted
on 4 ply museum board, backed by blank photographic paper, and bound
with linen tape, using archival materials and processes. The edition is
limited to twenty signed and numbered copies and four artist's proofs. In
order to display the entire open book for the full effect, it is necessary to
have a clear space 6' 8" long and 11" wide. The book may be displayed in
sections (marked I, II, III) with the remainder of the book collapsed if space
necessitates. The book may be opened by holding the front cover and
unfolding gently to the right. As the three-dimensional vertical pages are
opened by holding the front cover and title pages and unfolding gently to the
right. As the three dimensional vertical pages are opened the horizontal
hinged pages will fall freely into place. Refer to the diagram for adjusting
final positions. To refold the book, start from the back, raising each
horizontal page into place before closing its vertical counterparts, folding
gradually to the front."

Unsigned. Unnumbered.
Images are grainy, black and white photographs of land- and skyscapes.
Fold-outs from the bottom edges lie flat when accordion pages are opened
creating 3-D environments. One 3-D panel contains a triangle that juts out
from the corner when opened. Comes in a slip case with a separate paper
folio containing directions for display.
